About

Jean-Michel Després is a French writer, director and independent producer.

Born in Roanne on 12 May 1970, he began his career at 22 at Radio France in Paris, where he spent many years working on radio drama for France Culture. At the same time he wrote and directed his first films, including La Fille de la Vltava (2003) and Le Pont de l’amour (2010).

Deeply inspired by Romanticism, his cinema opens onto a poetic imagination where dream and reality intertwine. In 2020 he made his first feature, Radio Nuit Paris, a poetic weave of characters in search of love, seen through the inner world of a night-time taxi driver in Paris.

In 2024 he directed Le Désir de peindre (The Way I Paint), with Italian actors Giulia Di Quilio and Andrea Cianci. The film follows Tonino, a young Italian artist, and his encounter with a fascinating woman who becomes, for him, a mother, a goddess and a lover.
